Plantitas Verdes Plant Maintenance: The Big 5
Have you ever wondered what goes on during a plant care maintenance session? Well, today we’ll give you a little peek into our step-by-step process in making sure your plants are set up for success.
1. Check overall plant health
We start by taking a good look at your plant. Notice any browning or yellowing tips, wilted leaves, or dropped foliage. We compare its current state to our last visit to see if the watering routine is working and make notes of any big changes to track its progress over time.
2. Inspect for pests and remove safely
We look closely at the leaves, stems, and hidden spots for pests like tiny insects, webs, or unusual marks. After spraying a microfiber towel with neem oil or bio insecticide, we gently wipe away any pests found. For heavy infestations, it's best to remove damaged leaves and stems to stop the spread.
3. Prune and clean leaves
Disinfected pruning shears before pruning is a must! We trim dead or drooping leaves and shape browning tips to blend naturally with the plant. After pruning, we wipe the leaves with a damp microfiber towel to remove dust and debris. For tougher plants, a little neem oil can help the leaves shine and be healthy.
4. Check soil moisture and apply treatments
We use a moisture meter to check the soil’s moisture level, and often double check with our hands. Before watering, we add fertilizer or bio insecticide to the watering can based on the individual plant’s needs then we build a profile for each plant so we can track when each plant receives extra treatments.
5. Water evenly and observe absorption
Last but never least, we water the soil evenly so it soaks through properly. We watch how the soil drinks up the water and adjust if needed, then gently remove and avoid watering decorative moss to slow discoloration.
BONUS: Tidy up surrounding space
We want to leave your space better than we found it! We pick up any fallen leaves or trimming from the pot and surrounding floor, and wipe down any nearby surfaces clear of plant or dust debris. A clean, neat space makes your plants and the room look their best.
